Fruga Does New York

by frugalista on February 21, 2008

Ok, so there’s been a change of plans since the Birthday Break Up post. El Ex emailed and said he bought the ticket for me, so it’s for me to use as I wish. So there’s a silver lining in a dark cloud after all. Yay.

So, I will be in the Big Apple this weekend, updating everyone on my free and frugal lifestyle, New York edition. The friend I will be staying with is Coco. She’s an avid poster here and has been doing the no-spend month along with me. She’s already tipped me to this article in Time Out New York which has 342 free things to do in the big city.

Things are looking up.

For your trip to NYC, can I suggest MOMA Free Fridays from 4-8 PM. It is usually 20 bucks! For this weekend, there is a free RZA album release party at Studio B in Brooklyn. You have to send an e-mail to rsvp@clubstudiob.com. Harlem Vintage has a free wine tasting every Saturday afternoon. They were just featured on CNN. For live jazz, St. Nick’s Pub is legendary and has no cover charge. Plus there is always a chance that one of old timers might buy you a cocktail.

Chic not cheap….EMAIL ME. I live in Harlem and I didn’t know about all this free/cheap stuff available to do. I was just going to tell the Frugalist that I wish her luck on finding something free/cheap to do in NYC but CLEARLY you know of free/cheap things.

Very nice CnC. I forgot about MOMA. I love that NYC gives us opportunities to make up for what we overpay in rent.
