Green Make Up/M.A.C.

Lipstick
In my quest to be a full-fledged Frugalista, I’ve decided to recycle my make up. Trust, I’m not THAT into make up. I think it’s somewhat of a hassle. But now that I’m trying to spend my life without doling out cash, I am going to take M.A.C. cosmetics up on its recycling offer. If you use six containters worth of M.A.C. products and return them to the counter, the company gives you a free lipstick.

I scoured through my make up bag this weekend and found eight tubes of lip gloss/lipstick that I have used up. You know what that means for me? Fresh lipstick at no extra cost. Yay.

Here’s the info on the Back to M.A.C program, lifted from the website:

RECYCLING WITH BACK TO M·A·C
Because we share your commitment to the environment, M·A·C accepts returns of its primary packaging through the Back to M·A·C Program. By returning six [6] M·A·C primary packaging containers to a M·A·C counter or M·A·C Cosmetics Online, you receive a free M·A·C Lipstick of your choice as our thanks to you.

Since 100% of the retail selling price of Viva Glam Lipsticks is provided to organizations that help people living with HIV/AIDS, these colours are excluded from this program.

You know… this is good to know! Although, admittedly, I was a bit scared to find out what you meant by “recycling makeup”… then again, I should know better than to think you’d let hygiene and common sense go by the wayside just to save a few bucks. :-)

I’ve been saving up for my free lipstick since I started wearing MAC back in 1994. It took me a while since I don’t wear much make-up, clean out every bit of lipstick/powder/gloss that I do wear and occasionally lose a tube. Problem is, of the 7 or 8 empties, at least 4 of them are the old model lipsticks (all black and flat on the top)
Do you think they’ll take those back? Is it worth the embarrassment of trying to return a cleaned out 1995 model Film Noir? Maybe they’re antiques.

WOW this is great thanks Frugalista. I don’t own any MAC products but knowing that I can get something back I may have to make an investment…lol
Thanks for this wonderful post.

Veronica- what you wouldn’t be friends with a girl who wears USED make up? Teehee. good catch
CoCo-Imma need for you to head to the nearest department store and recycle. Dust off the lipstick before you return it.
PJD-I aim to please. Glad you like it.

Thanks for sharing this info. I have nine containers of M.A.C. products. Hopefully I”ll be able to exchange the containers with a free lipstick this weekend.
