Driving for Cheap Gas

People in San Diego are driving to Mexico to get cheaper gas. Mexico has an inflation subsidy to keep prices low for its citizens. A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in San Diego retails for an
average price of $4.61 a gallon. A few miles south, in Tijuana, it’s
about $2.54 — even less if you pay in pesos, according to the article.

I know some people who make it a point to fill up their gas tank anytime they see it at a lower price, even if the tank is near full. Here is a tool to help you find the lowest priced gas in your area.

What are your tricks of the trade to save on gas?

If people are driving just to fill up their tanks I proabbly wouldnt go. But if you are going to fill up your tank and those plastic jugs that hold gas, then I am all for it. It would be worth the trip as long as it isn’t too far out of the way, a couple of miles, I can dig that.

I borrow my neighbor’s car and then forget to pay him for the gas I use.

I don’t go out of my way to find cheap gas but I try to limit my gas-buying to the places I know to be consistently lower-priced (Kroger and BJ’s). I rarely make a ‘special trip’ anywhere, preferring to run all my errands at once. They say that 60mph is the sweet spot in terms of gas consumption but I don’t know if I can drive that slowly on a regular basis.
I’ve noticed that hubby has parked his gaz-guzzler in favor of driving our gas-sipping 4-cyl pickup.

How do I save on gas? I try to do my errands on my way home. I also don’t go out of town as much as I’d like.

In order to save on gas, I usually will only fill up at Sam’s, Kroger’s, or Wal-mart. They usually have the best prices in town. I don’t visit with my friends/family as often as I’d like to because everyone lives at least 20-30 minutes away. If I decide to visit them, I make sure that there is at least 2-3 things on my to-do list that can be completed on his/her side of town.

I no longer drive out of the way to fill up (I use to, when gas was cheaper.)
I try to save time and gas by running errands en route home and fill up on the way where I find the ‘cheapest’ gas prices. I don’t go out as much as I use to. I am definitely more ‘purpose-driven’.
