Ed McMahon in Foreclosure?

by frugalista on June 4, 2008

Mcmahon Oh no! Say it ain’t so! What would Johnny think? Ed McMahon, the former right hand man on The Tonight Show, has his Beverly Hills manse in foreclosure.  McMahon defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans with a unit of Countrywide Financial Corp., which filed a notice of default in March, according to the L.A. Times.

The L.A. Times ran a nice story explaining all the health troubles he’s been having lately, which has made it hard on his finances. Seems like Ed hit a rough patch. Maybe Ed and Latrell Sprewell can be come roommates?

What do you think about Ed McMahon’s home being in foreclosure? Do you think he should have prepared for a rainy day? Or, do you think that financial troubles can hit the best of us? If Johnny were still here, do you think he would have bailed Ed out? Let’s talk about it.

Ohh that was cold Twiggers….but why was I thinking that…LOL
I think rough times can hit the best of us but it is always a smart move to plan for the rainy days. You just never know what may happen so plan ahead as much as possible. Also live within your means, I dont know when he purchased that home but I am thinking as long as he has been in the business he should have been paid up a while back. Anywho i don’t think Johnny would have bailed him out, from what I understand he was not the nicest guy in town.

This is typical of celebrities that think their star power will carry them into retirement.
Most, not all, celebrities have about a five to ten year chance to save as much as they possible can, then live off of that earned income.
But no. When they are on top for that very short time, they think the party will last forever and it always ends badly. Think of anybody from these sitcoms: Different Strokes, M*A*S*H, Cosby Show, Wings, etc.
These actors were making high incomes, but spending like it would last forever and it never does. Instead of investing of their money, they get assistants, buy expensive houses, spend like children in a candy store and look dumbfounded when the money is gone.
McMahon, OF ALL PEOPLE, should know this! He has been in the business long enough to now how it works. Let them take his house. He deserves to lose it.
Maybe we will see Eddie whoring out to one of those terrible reality shows. Better yet. He can team up with that other idiot, Nick Hogan. They can call it, “Don’t You Know Who I Am?”

Aw Twiggers! I would say that’s cold, but hey, don’t the old people always win the money?
PJD- The good thing about Ed is that he probably has a gang of stuff he can sell on ebay or at an auction.
Dan M.-Tell us how you really feel. LOL But you know I got a soft spot for Gary Coleman. I love the lil guy. Whatchootombout?

For years the Wikepedia profile on McMahon stated, without attribution, that Ed was worth $200 million. Clearly that was in error as it appears he is now broke.

Cry me a river that some no-talent, brown-nosing grin-and-laugh-at-everything-Johnny-said geezer can’t pay the mortgage on his California mansion.
Shoot, I’m lucky I can afford the gnat-infested trailer I live in now.
I say it would do Ed a whole lotta good to hit skid row and pan handle outside of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. There ain’t no shame in sharing a cot with a bunch of winos and getting fed a warm bowl of soup.
But just to show that I don’t have a heart like Caligula, I am willing to help Ed out:
I will personally give him a shopping cart filled with old cans and bottles that he can cash in for his mortgage bill.
And if that fails, I have a refrigerator box he can call home.
What street corner in California can I find you at, Ed?

I know a lot of 85 year-old-people who haven’t worked in 18 months.
