Yesterday was quite a day for me. The Miami Herald announced staff reductions. A lot of us will have to go. Some people can leave voluntarily. Others must leave. One person has to leave from my reporter class. It will go by seniority, so I am in a good position. But we will know by next Wednesday how it all works out. We’ve had buyouts before. It’s the economy and our industry. We knew they were coming soon. The blogosphere was alive with speculation since last month.
If you are facing layoffs/buyouts, here are some tips about what you should do with your finances. If you need to make a quick buck, here are some tips.
Here is an earlier post I did about what to do if you are laid off from work.
Are you facing buyouts? If so, do you have an exit strategy? How do you rebound after losing your job?

NOOOOOOO what do I need who shall I call???? Who will prevent me from going overboard on my product spending? Who will keep me sane and frugal….who I ask?
I’m sure you will be safe, you have readers who tune in just for your flare and knowledge of all things frugal. We are not facing buyouts where I am but some people have left for one reason or another and the work heaped upon others is a bit much so things can still be stressful.
Hang in there and you know you always having a writing spot over on my blog, though I don’t pay so that may not be helpful after all.
chat with you later oh wise frugal one.
PLEASE keep Natalie, we need a petition going.
If you are let go, please keep up your blogging.
I never panic about layoffs, because I know I have enough cash to carry me over to another gig
PJD and Money, Thanks so much for your kind words. I think I’m in a good position this time, but I will know for sure next week. I updated the blog post with a bit more information because I don’t want people to get too alarmed. But, the newspaper industry has had so many lay offs, you really can’t get too comfortable.
Oh no, I hope you are safe from the layoffs. Keep your head up. I know how stressful it can be trying to pick up the slack of the people who did get let go.
I’ve been laid off before, and I admit that it never gets easy.
What’s important is to get beyond all the emotional turmoil at being laid off as soon as you can, so that you can focus on getting a NEW job. Believe me, bitterness is detectable in a job interview.
I hope that you are OK, hon, with your job. I also am very glad that you are aware of the process as it’s going on, and that you’ve been working on your debt.
Keep socking money away as best you can, and keep the faith!
Don’t get laid off! The only growth industries in South Florida are gambling and pornography.
OK folks, time to get another $100K job, there are thousands posted so dont be shy.
