Couples look for ways to cut wedding costs

by frugalista on August 15, 2008

Weddings are getting frugalized. Couples are cutting wedding expenses. I can’t blame them. According to the article, the average wedding runs about $27,000. Whoa. Most girls dream of a great big wedding with family and friends, but who wants to be paying for a wedding for years into the marriage?

Here are some suggestions from the article:

*Butter cream frosting instead of thick fondant frosting
*artificial (silk) flowers instead of real ones
*smaller wedding cakes
*DJ instead of a live band

I say go for it. I don’t have a problem with getting married in court. I say do what’s in your budget. A wedding is only one day. Now, I would love a great ceremony, but only if the bills wouldn’t haunt me for years to come. I think the bride and groom should spend their time on the dance.

Do you have any tips for brides who want to watch their wedding costs? Do you think weddings are too expensive? Have you been to a cheapie wedding? Were you aghast? What was the best wedding you attended?
