What would you do to save a buck?

September 11, 2008 by frugalista divider image

Tightwad How far would you go to stretch your dollars? This woman rides a horse to work. For real! It’s deep out there. I went a whole month without getting my hair or nails done. I didn’t eat out, either. I saved $400. Now, I had a car with a milky finish because I didn’t pay to get it washed, but it was worth it. I lost four pounds from eating my home-cooked meals! Eating out is bad for your health, I swear.

What do you think about the woman riding a horse to her retail job? What is the most extreme thing you’ve done to save money? Share with me!

  • Riding a horse to work, that is on another level..lol I’m not sure how far I would go to save a dime but I know it won’t be too far because I like to be comfortable..lol

  • I bought fabric for a Greek themed costume party, then turned it into living room curtains.
I watch shows I’v missed on my cable-free TV online. It’s like TIVO on the cheap.
I often carry a heavy jar of change several blocks to a bank, because I refuse to give a percentage to the Coinstar right across the street from my apt.

  • I think I told you this before but my husband and I became a one car couple for 9 months to save for a house and to improve our credit scores.

  • This one is kinda tightwad. I bought instant coffee to work so I’d stop buying the 75 cent 2 cups a day from the machine. Cheap!

  • I suspect a cheap car costs less than maintaining three horses. Even cheaper, she could ride a bicycle the 1.25 miles to work. It’s not that far.

  • PJD-Divas love comfort!
Coco-Death to Coinstar! They shave off big money. You can make a dolla holla.
    Luvadeal-And you’re still married? I’m impressed. He’s a keeper!
    Luvadeal again-Sounds smart to me.
Savvy-The girl has had those horses for years. She would chew off her arm before getting rid of them for a economy car.

  • That girl’s crazy. It’s not safe to keep the horse in the parking lot! It’s also not healthy for the horse!
She should walk or ride a bike!
On the other hand, I haven’t had my hair highlighted or dyed in 4 months now, and I’m going crazy! Oh well, better crazy than broke!

  • I do not spend my money on things that are not really important. If I want to buy something for myself I usually save a little money so that I could have the enough amount buying for that thing. Life is really hard these days. Sometimes if I have ran out of money I would apply for a payday loan.

  • I would not go to the extreme like that. I have moved from cooking sometimes to all the time. I haven’t eaten out in like six months.
I plan all my trips to keep gas usage down. I decided not to get cable and watch my DVDs and shows online.
