I have never attended a HBCU homecoming. I know some people who attended the Howard homecoming and loved every minute.
Have a great weekend!

My entire family, save for me, are GSU graduates, I mean they bleed black and gold. Grambling State University home of the mighty Tigers’ homecoming is met every year in my family with the ballers and the imposters either reving up their RVs or renting one to tailgate in. Every year since I was 5 we all dressed up in our black and gold and made the hours long trip back to good ole GSU. Such good memories, good folks, good fun! Yes we’re THAT family in Wal Mart fussing about which rack of ribs will fit better on the grill and whether or not we should buy pork or beef because PawPaw’s blood pressure is up again.

PJD- You have to go to at least one! You won’t regret it!
Tela- YAY for GSU! My cousin went there. Of course Grambling had the great football teem so you were bleeding black and gold! You got me all misty eyed over here.

So true Tela! I’m a Howard grad and our Homecoming has become a pop culture event. But I was raised by an Alcornite. SWAC schools have their own brand of over-the-topness. I remember being dressed in purple & gold to attend not only homecoming, but travelling to the Capital City Classic, Circle City Classic or the local Chicago Classic.

Hey, hey…black schools aren’t the only ones that have homecomings. Homecoming is a big deal at UNC as well, although I’ve only made it back once.

Tela, my entire family went to Southern and I ended up at LSU.
I love black college homecomings so much, I never went to one at LSU. Yes, they are big deal at LSU but they suck! Majorly.

I attended Morgan State in Baltimore and it’s nothing like a HBCU homecoming and I do agree with the post above about Howard. I live in the DC area and Howard’s homecoming ain’t the same. It’s more like an industry event.
