I used to think only shopping at the exclusive retails store was right for me and then one day I went to a garage sale and found a three legged buffalo nickle at a garage sale for 40 cents. Wow, was I surprised. I sold it for $7.00!!!

Yea, it’s true the economy has a big impact on garage and yard sales. New sales are at all time highs at the free online garage sales like garagesalehomepage.com. It’s great news if you shop garage and yard sales, but still a little sad about the economy.

Garage/Yard/Tag sales are huge in most of the country. I don’t think the recent economic crisis has made much of a change to the amount or size of sales. Weather, not the economy creates the increase/decrease in sales for the most part.

I have a group of people that show up every weekend at the same spot in the neighborhood having a sale. I don’t stop by, because it’s mostly kids stuff, and I don’t need any. I also don’t need the temptation!
The condo association garage sales that we’ve had in the past didn’t work out really well – I’m not planning on doing one. I’ll freecycle/ebay/donate my stuff from now on.

I don’t go to garage sales though I did once participate in a neighborhood-wide garage sale. That will probably be the first and last time though. It was just too much trouble for very little profit. I prefer to just take my unneeded items to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

If it’s fall in Florida, so it’s yard/garage sale season. If you live in the country the collectibles and antiques buyers are trawling in force. And there are coin and jewelry buying shows. There’s more for sale, but not as many individual buyers. One woman down the street has had the same baby clothes for sale hanging on the fence for 3 weeks. Sad.

I have never been to a garage sale and I don’t plan on ever going but I have seen some people get some great items. I don’t really see garage sales in my area and when I am ready to get rid of my items, I just dump them in one of those clothes drive cans on the street.
Hopefully the items are going to good use.
