Delta announces new luggage fee

by frugalista on November 6, 2008

Delta Airlines will charge $15 for the first checked bag. Before, you could get the first bag for free. The new fee starts on Dec. 5. Just an FYI.

I generally fly Delta but they’re starting to get on my nerves (along with all the other airlines). I could probably stomach general fare increases rather than all the nickel-and-diming they’re doing. However, I’m somewhat forced to deal with them because how else will I get to where I want to go?

Oh goodness, I can’t afford that!! Looks like I won’t be flying Delta anymore!

I need a list of airlines that don’t charge for the first bag. I have a flight in December on Delta but because I bought my ticket before they made this change, I won’t get charged for my bag.

When you have to fly you have to fly so what alternatives exist? Sadly giving into the price increases is just something we have to deal with.

Product Junkie Diva – I beg to differ. If you have time to plan your flights/trips in advance and depending on where from/where to you are flying you can avoid certain airlines.
I don’t have a long master list of airlines that don’t charge for the first bag but I do know that AirTran and Southwest don’t. So being the recessionista that I am, I would probably look to them first.
