Gracious! Police in Jensen Beach, Fla., nabbed a man who tried to run off with communion wafers during a church service. This is just sad! Horrible, even. Honestly, if I were at that church, I would let the man have the wafer. If someone is that desperate for a snack, I say have at it. I would even say a prayer for them. But the church folks in Jensen Beach are a disciplined bunch. First you let the communion wafers get stolen, and the next thing you know someone is hitting up the members for their gold chains!
What do you think about the communion-wafer caper? Was the poor man just hungry or just shameless?

Good Lord! Jesus would have wanted him to eat, don’t you think? That’s awful. Makes me sad..
I hope he got some wine too. Those wafers can be so dry.
Seriously, the church should bail him out and feed him.
Yeah that’s a little harsh. When I was in college, the church I attended frequently had homeless persons wonder in during service. As long as they were quiet and respectful they were allowed to stay. And even when they got too loud and disturbed the service, they were always gently escorted away and I believe they were given meals as well. I often saw them in the church’s kitchen or coming from the back after. That’s being Christ-like. This not so much, IMHO.
I’d say stop him and tell him never to come back, but let him leave with the wafers.
Those people were a bit harsh…
Yikes I know he won’t be going there again.
Have a fab. weekend.
Would have to know more, but I can’t believe anyone would steal communion wafers to eat. I assume most of the previous posters are not Catholic or Anglican. I cannot imagine satisfying hunger with them.
It’s like eating glue impregnated cardboard.
I bet something else was going on.
Many churches beleive communion bread is symbolic, (so letting it get stolen might not be as big a deal, though its not realy very respectful in that case, either)Some churches, though, (ie Catholic) still hold the beleif central that the communion “wafer” is the real presence of Jesus Christ, and is to be consumed at Mass reverently in acknowlwedgement of accepting how GOd became Man to die (like bread to be eaten) to resurrect his a family back to be with Him together, and also, in consuming the communion together at mass, the community reaffirms this core beleif to each other by eating the eucharist in each others presence. Communion wasn’t intended as “take-out”. So its considered an affront to GOd making himself vulnerable (irreverent) to disrespect the communion host, use it to repel vampires, etc…and its even considered irreverent for a beleiving Catholic to not consume the host in Mass (except in special circumstances when someone gets specially commissioned to take the host to a homebound, and when that happens theres often a short prayer from the community to whoever the Eucharist gets sent to, affirming the solidarity it in part also means.)The “Real Presence” is supported by scripture, and very early church history, when Martyrs died protecting the Host from being stolen…little late nite catechism forya!
