I’ve gifted some of my event swag and don’t feel bad about it. I wouldn’t give a branded T-shirt or pen, but a nice coffee table book or DVD has wound up under the tree. I have a $50 budget for 2 kids in my family.
I’ve finished shopping and yes, I stayed within my budget. One of my shopping secrets is buying a family gift. For example, close friends who now have spouses and children get a family gift instead of one gift for each person. Last year it was a pretzel making gift set from Auntie Ann’s for $10, this year it’ll be a $30 movie gift card. (popcorn not included)For individual gifts, my rationale was, if it wasn’t on sale, I didn’t buy it. Which leads me to wonder why stores think they can pull the “okey doke” on people who’ve been shopping in their store all year? I can recognize a “markup to markdown” scam of a sale anyday. Anyhoo, Merry Christmas Frugalista! From Tela in Texas
Coco: I have no problem regifting swag! You are smart for your $50 budget. Was it hard to explain to your family that you weren’t giving gifts?
Tela: Smart strategy. My friends are having kids, so it’s hard to buy individual gifts for a family of four!
