  • Those are great tips. I’m financing the Christmas present for my husband on the change I’ve saved over the past few months. I pay for items I but with a bill and collect the change every day in a jar, roll it up. It’s safe to say he’s going to love his new iPod. He broke the old original last week.

  • Thanks for the link! I like her ideas. Nothing really new, but it’s nice to read them again.
Again, none of this is new, but I like to do the following:
Air dry my clothes – it’s better for them, and it’s free.
collect loose change and deposit it in my emergency fund – that adds as much as $25 a week, some times.
pay cash – I pay much better attention to cash than credit.
go to the grocery with a list – if it’s not on the list, don’t buy it.
cook in batches and make meals in advance – that way, I can eat out once a week, and have cheap but good food the rest of the week! Also, my time spent cooking is realtively small.
Budget – keep a list of monthly bills, when they are due and any balances.
Teddy Bear – nothing says security like a hug from a stuffed animal!

  • The biggest savings is on the stuff you don’t buy.
A $100 sweater bought for $20, is still $20 spent. Would you have spent the $100? Then there’s no actual savings.
And then you don’t have to hire a professional organizer to help you corral all your crap.
Katy Wolk-Stanley, who does need a professional organizer.
