I’m a big fan of closet shopping, which is the art of digging deep into your wardrobe to find something to wear. Sometimes we say we have nothing to wear and there’s a perfectly fine dress hanging in the corner of the closet, looking for the chance to hit the daylight. This Wall Street Journal article takes it to the next level. One woman in the article dropped $405 for closet consultant to refashion her existing wardrobe. SIGN ME UP! I mean, I do that all the time with my friends anyway. I could be getting paid! I would never use a closet consultant. That’s what friends/moms are for!
Do you shop in your own closet for clothes? Have you ever discovered an outfit that you forgot about and then wore it? Would you pay someone to tell you to wear clothes you already own? How long do you keep your clothes?

I think the most important thing to do with your clothes is to properly clean them – never use Woolite, air dry whenever possible.
And LEARN HOW TO MEND!! It’s not hard to sew a button on, or to mend a small rip. You paid money for those clothes, right? (Channel your mother or grandmother if you have to here, it’ll help keep your clothes in good condition.)
And most of all, look at the quality of what you buy BEFORE you buy it. Cheap is cheap, and you probably can’t save something that falls apart on the third wash!
OK babe — I way need to know. I don’t get the shopping in the closet thing — is this really that new of a thing to rewear something more than once? I have always considered myself quite the shopaholic, but I have clothes in my closet from 9th grade and I’m proud of it!!

Hehe, I definitely shop in my closet, as well as the closets of my sister and my parents when I’m visiting them. I usually can snatch something they haven’t used in a while. Of course, I ask first! Just a few days ago my muchacho passed down one cool leather belt from his Berkeley days. Shopping by the method you described rocks, but I’d probably be more fashionable if I was able to get myself a closet consultant.
