Frugalista’s tips for No-Buy Month

by frugalista on February 9, 2009

Cheerful Monday! I had a ball on Saturday hanging with the CNN crew! If you missed me, I will be a guest again this Saturday about 9: 15 a.m. ish. All the cool kids will be watching.

So, I've been getting a lot of questions about No-Buy Month protocol in my Frugalista facebook group. You should join because we are a fun bunch.

Here are a few rules of engagement and tips for a successful  No-Buy Month.

1) It's not meant to be punitive. It's a way to pamper your bank account and give yourself some extra time to focus on other things besides spending. I filed my taxes, yesterday. Years before, I would have filed my taxes on April 15. Because I wasn't hanging at a mall or running wild spending cash, I had time to focus.

2) If you are on-the-go a lot, consider taking traveling fruit with you, to resist the temptation to go to the candy machine. For instance, pack your purse, car or lunch bag with bananas, apples and oranges. They travel well and if you get a craving, they are easy to eat.

3) Alcohol bought at the grocery store is fair game. :)

Have a frugal and fabulous Monday!
