Gracious. Actor Isaiah Washington, who got kicked off Grey's Anatomy, was served recently with an eviction notice on his $20,000-per-month Califorinia rental home. Wow.

Hmm. Do you think he could have found a more affordable home after losing his job on Grey's Anatomy?  Just asking.

Beckham-lg-milk
The Got Milk? campaign is hitting South Florida all this week. Today, the camp is at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami  from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free milk tastings and massages. Oh my! I may have to stop by.

Why is David Beckham such a piece of art? I hope he shows up with or without the milk mustache!

Hello! Due to the bad economy, high school seniors are opting out of four-year colleges and going to community colleges  or considering going to the military to save money.

• Scholarships trump school status.
Roughly 57 percent of college-bound students are considering a less
prestigious institution because of affordability, according to an
October study by MeritAid.com, a scholarship-finding website.

• Delaying college for at least a year isn't out of the question.
Some 16 percent of students are putting college on hold because they
don't think they will be able to afford it, the MeritAid.com research
shows.

• The military is, more than ever, a viable option to pay for college.
Terry Howell, managing editor of military.com, a website for the armed
forces, says the number of Google searches for the site's military
aptitude practice test tripled between December 2007 and December 2008.

• Community colleges and trade schools deserve a second look.
Both types of schools are seeing spikes in enrollment from students of
all ages looking for cheaper — and quicker — educations. Community
colleges are reporting unprecedented enrollment increases, according to
the American Association of Community Colleges. Enrollment in technical
schools is at an all-time high, says the Association for Career and
Technical Education.

What do you think about this trend? Do you think it's smart to go to community college instead of a university to save money? Do you think that the students are missing out by not pursuing top-tier education?

Wmc
Miami is hot right now with the Winter Music Conference. All the cool DJs are in town and I'm loving the music scene right now. On Saturday, there's a free pool party at Beach Plaza Hotel, 1401 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. The party starts at noon! DJ SpinnaAndy Caldwell, and Adam Auburn will be in the house. Yay! You must RSVP here.

If you have any more free events for the WMC, shoot them my way!

Have a fun, frugal, and fabulous WMC and weekend,

Natalie

Cigarettes
Officially on April 1,smokers will have an increased price on their tobacco products. However, already businesses are charging more for the smokes.

Here is a list of states and how much the cost of tobacco will rise.

Does the price increase of cigarettes impact you? Do you think it's a good tax? Do you smoke? Will you quit smoking now?

It's being called the Divorce of the Depression.

Swedish Countess Marie Douglas-David and her super-rich hubby former United Technologies CEO George David are having a big, fat, financially messy divorce. Douglas-David, 36, is demanding $100 million from her estranged hubby. She signed a pre-nuptial agreement for $38 million and that's just not enough for her to live on. She needs $53,000 a week to live, Douglas-David says.

Her husband is worth $329 million.

Could you survive off $43 million? Is Douglas-David gold digging? Should her husband just give her the $100 million? What do you think about her spending $53,000 per week?  Why do I get the feeling she'll be an extra on The Real Housewives of New York next season?

What's your favorite scary movie?

Thanks Melanie for the tip!

Aw. Victory Living Programs in  Fort Lauderdale, which gives training and guidance to people with disabilities is in the middle of a "stay-at-home gala." Instead of holding a big function to raise money for its programs, people can stay at home and bid on auction items on the Internet. The fundraiser ends at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

From the group's website about the "Non-Event Event":

Please do not dress up, do not hire a sitter, and do not leave your cozy surroundings. We are not inviting you to put on uncomfortable shoes, eat another rubber chicken dinner, or to pay for a new outfit.

Instead, we invite you to support Victory Living Programs by purchasing tickets to our Non-Event and visiting our website at www.victoryliving.org to bid on our exciting silent auction
items

In an effort to cut expenses in these hard economic times, we are not renting a room, purchasing food and beverages or paying for entertainment. Instead, 98% of the proceeds will be able to go directly back into our programs, to assist men and women with developmental disabilities to live, work and socialize in the community.

Oh my! Holding an Internet auction is one way to save money. I found this article from U.S.A. Today about how charities are hit hard by this poor economy.  Some charities are worried about having to cut services to their clients, which is sad.

However, on the good side of things, more people who are jobless are volunteering to work with charities. Indeed, there are always those who are less fortunate than you!

Do you think it's a good idea to hold a charity fundraiser on the web and not hold an event? Do you find yourself volunteering more in a bad economy? Do you donate to any charities? Have your donation habits changed since the recession?

I'll be there! Free mojitos from 5 to 7 p.m. at Double Grand, 1717 N Bay Shore Drive, Miami.  Check out Miami New Times for the goods!

Drink
My former computer teacher, Gio, forwarded this website, myopenbarmiami.com,  which lists all of the drink specials of the moment around town.  The site also scouts places to get free drinks in L.A., San Francisco, Chicago and New York. Those cities are my kind of towns!

Happy Friday and cheers to you!
