Frugalista busted?

434286055_dsc_2923_resize So, I went out last night with one of my really good guy friends. We hit up a "buzz party" for the upcoming American Black Film Festival that's coming in June. The party was at my favorite hotel, The Delano on Miami Beach. So, parking in the garage was one dollar per hour and after 10  p.m. the price doubled.  My friend said let's give it two hours. I didn't really think about the parking that much. I just wanted to have fun.

So the party was lovely. I stayed away from the $17 pinot grigios and focused on catching up with old friends and looking cute in my halter dress. :)

We stayed a little longer than expected and the parking tab ended up being $6, which I think is reasonable. My friend paid but chastised me for being a bad frugalista. Yes, I do hang with a merry band of frugalists. He kept his eye on the clock, but I was having fun. I like a good time, so parking meter be damned.

I mean, gracious! I'm frugal, but I'm not going to go home early over $4 worth of parking.  What do you think? Would you cut your night short over parking? Are you a time-conscious person or do you go with the flow?

Did I mention my friend wore Gucci loafers? I guess by being cheap, er, frugal, is how he could afford such a luxury!

Having a blast is a better bargain than cheap parking! Plus, I bet you could have found him a deal on those loafers.

$6 for a whole night of parking is a bargain where I come from (NYC)!

Frugal gets a bad rap because people assume it means saving every last penny. There is no right or wrong way to be frugal, but curtailing simple fun in the name of strict frugality sounds like a bad precedent to me.

You DO look cute in your dress!
That’s a really funny story- his loafers, but wanting to knock off early for a few bucks of parking.
I think being frugal is all about not wasting money on some things so you can use it on things you care about. In this case, that covered your parking.

Nice pic, I would not cut fun over parking people get to wrap up in this frugual stuff and they tend to take it too far and become cheap.

Being frugal is about having money for the things which give you pleasure instead of pissing it away on crap.
Have fun, and don’t second guess it.

So let me get this straight. You went to the Delano, didn’t have one drink. it sounds like you left South Beach before things actually started happening? Is this really worth it.
I’d prefer to save and have one enjoyable rather than three mediocre ones.

LOL A Coco “a flask is a sound investment.”
Frugalista I would not end the fun over 4.00, if it were more MAYBE but not 4.00.
Glad you had a good time.
