Library usage on the rise

by frugalista on July 7, 2009

Day in the Life Spotlight The library is the "it" place to be these days. Yippee! I remember when I used to hang out at the library as a kid after school. Nowadays, everyone is going to the library to pick up CDs, DVDs and books. Tax dollars at work, no?

I have my name on the waiting list for quite a few popular books at my local library. I'm glad everyone has a library fetish now, but jeez, it's so hard to get the new releases!

Do you go to the library more, now? What do you get at the library?

The library is the biggest bargain in town. There are also a number of library services you can use from your home computer – you can download audio books, music and movies without even leaving your house.

I was a library dweller before the recession, once I bought a house, I felt the need to go, Every weekend you can catch me at a branch with my daughter

My husband and I have been library fiends for years. CDs, DVDs and books galore! The librarians know us on site and group our books together. We perpetually have our names on wait lists. My problem isn’t getting the latest release, it’s finishing it in 7 days! We pay small fines nearly every time we go to the library, but $2 to read the latest great book? Cheap cheap cheap! Certainly much cheaper than buying a book we may not like! If we like it, then maybe we buy it.

I got a new library card when I voted early at the main library in Broward last year…but I confess, I haven’t used it. I’m buying far fewer books these days though, so I’m sure it’ll just be a matter of time!
