Should Tiger Pay Elin $750 million?

May 25, 2010 by frugalista divider image

Some media outlets are reporting that Tiger Woods’ wife, Elin, wants $750,000 million in the divorce. Yikes. Tiger could cheat on me for a fourth of that amount. I kid. I kid. But seriously, do you think that she’s demanding too much? What else could she know about Tiger that hasn’t been told? That man’s business is all over the internet. His sexual exploits have practically made kiss-and-tell a recession-proof career.
I wonder if it’s worth it for Tiger to pay her what she wants so she won’t speak publicly about the marriage.

  • She’s entitled to whatever she is legally entitled to. Yes, I know that sounds redundant. But marriage is a contract, and if Tiger didn’t want this to happen, well, he should have kept his pants on.

  • This is kinda crazy to me. $750 million? Sheesh! I say throw her $50 million and that’s her money. He still pays spousal and child support. It’ll be a damn sight better than coming off $750 from the gate.
I’m all for women’s rights, but this is a set back for us. These same folks who want Elin to get half were all up in arms when Anita Baker’s husband asked for and got half. Double standards are wrong no matter who benefits.

  • @GLM: Love is costly! I pray she has gotten tested for STDs!
@Smarty: Yes, I was up in arms about Anita’s hubby. Why is that?

  • I believe that this is absurd. Interesting that she signed a prenup from the beginning yet wants half now. Makes me wonder, did she sign the pre-nup to make Tiger think she wasnt out for the money, to later renig? Or is this a, “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” attempt to proceed with accumulating half of Tiger’s estimated worth? Either way i dont think she should be sent empty-handed despite the numerous twists that could be made of their, “impending,” divorce. I just wish the best for the kids and that they will be able to amicably work out a situation that will be best suited for them.

  • Listen — if she were married to Joe plumber — and only got 7500 would that be ok? If she had been with Tiger since college — would $750 mil be ok?

The Law is the law if she gets half of what he is worth — then so be it. It would be no different if he had a regular occupation.

  • I’ve always had a problem with the concept that a spouse is somehow entitled to half or a third or any amount of anything, regardless of gender. Tiger’s financially obligated to see that his little cubs are well cared for and nothing more. I find it hard to believe Elin needs 750 million dollars to accomplish that. Unless there was some sort of prenuptial agreement stating that she gets x amount of dollars and assuming SHE asked for the divorce, then why should she get anything above child support? Seems to me she basically wants Tiger Woods to buy her out. But let’s be realistic here…it’s not like they married for love anyway.
