Overweight woman charged extra at nail salon

by frugalista on August 26, 2010

Gracious, here’s another one for the chubby tax archives: a woman was charged $5 extra for services at a nail salon because she’s overweight. Ugh. The salon said that it was concerned about wear-and-tear on the chairs. Ohhh-kay. I think this is over-the-top. People will create a fee for anything. What do you think?

I think if I had been that woman it would have been my last time getting my nails done at that salon! That’s outrageous and I’d be tempted to sue them for discrimination. ;p

This is ridiculous- In my opinion, she is not large enough for anyone to be concerned about the weight capacity of the chairs. If they are going to charge extra for people who are overweight then there needs to be a sign or something which explains the stores policy. She should never step foot in that salon again.

Surely there is a better way to handle that! If the person is truely at risk of damaging the salon’s property, perhaps they have the right to refuse service? But that’s another, horrible situation waiting to happen!

She got caught trying to pad the bottom line. They probably been doing this for a while and ran into a lady who actually looked at the receipt. The overweight thing doesn’t make sense. If you have a salon chair with a weight limit of 200lbs, you have a cheap chair. I don’t go to salons, but the average woman is a size 14. If 200lbs is your limit, you cutting out alot of potential clients. Especially in place like GA where there is much junk in da trunk (not that this is a bad thing).

chubby tax archives” girl you are too funny.

This is plain silly. Why bother going to places like that, they have no integrity. Go to a real place such as Nordstrom’s spa!
