Hello! So, are you guys watching that show Extreme Couponing on TLC? It’s the show that highlights great deals that people get when shopping. Now, I’ve never met an online coupon code that I didn’t like. I’m a sucker for the buy-one-get-one free deals at my local grocer. It’s how I buy all of the spices for my kitchen. I spent a birthday having an awesome time and not spending a darn dime! However, one of the cornerstones of Extreme Couponing is that when you find a great deal, buy in bulk. I just don’t have the room in my bunny pad apartment.
On the show, one woman dumpster dives for coupons and basically has a drugstore in her home with all of the toiletries she got for free from using coupons. Yes, homegirl gets on a ladder, climbs into dumpsters looking for coupons. She’s darn good at it. She bought 480 razors, retail cost $4,000!!!! She has 45 bottles of dish soap. They fill up a second bedroom in her home! Gracious!
I admire the ladies on the Extreme Couponing show. They are organized and methodical. But, um…I have limits…I’ll buy my toilet tissue in bulk. I will not run a drugstore from my home. I have to live there! I can’t lie, the bulk buying made me think of hoarding. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean you need it.
What do you think of extreme couponing? Do you think it works better when you have a large family and lots of space? What’s your best extreme couponing story? Who had the best story on the show so far? Will you watch it? It comes on tonight at 9:30/8:30c. Here’s a sneak peak of tonight’s episode!

I absotively love this show! I’m not a hoarder and I don’t like clutter, but I like to stockpile & I love bargains so this show is right up my alley! I used to have a rule that I had to have 100 rolls of toilet paper at all times, even though I lived alone. I bought tons of hair product, deodorant and other toiletries and had quite a nice stash. This came in handy when I moved to FL and was unemployed then underemployed for a while.
I plan to try my hand at “extreme couponing” now that this semester is over & I have time to devote to it. I don’t know if I will put in 30hrs like some people featured on the show, but I want to see what I can get for free or for pennies.
A well stocked bathroom & pantry are things of beauty!
I’m amazed that these people save hundreds of dollars on groceries. I’m not sure if it’s true, but I was told by a Publix cashier that some states let shoppers get double or triple off per coupon but that Florida doesn’t allow it. I’m not sure if it’s true but I found that interesting.
I love watching this show, because they provide great tips that can be scaled back for the “regular” shopper. My husband does call them organized hoarders though, because they take it too far. One woman was hoarding diapers with no significant other in sight. Another was hoarding cat food, because they made her money. Donate that food to a shelter! Why hold onto it?
My other issue is the insanely eating habits of the shoppers. A stockpile of frozen dinners and junk food can’t be good for anyone.
great idea, look forward to all of it.
Has anyone else noticed the size of these people? They are ALL overweight as are the children they feed their 20 frozen pizzas and 8 boxes of hot pockets to. After seeing the show, I was very gungho about saving money on groceries until I noticed that it was impossible for me since I do not eat processed foods but then again, if I was trying to feed a family on a budget, I may be more inclined to be less bougie in my food selection but my parents raised me on a very tight budget and I was never fed processed foods to save a buck–not at the cost of my health.
I like it, and I must admit, I’m curious to learn, but I wonder if it only works in large quantities. I mean, it stands to reason that if it’s not uncommon to pay $8.75 for a $650 bill, then my usual $65 bill could be reduced to $0.87, right? I’m just curious because, if it *can* be done on a small, manageable scale that includes no stockpiling, then I am all in, and 100% happy to learn.
But you’re right. The stockpiling is excessive and ridiculous. It’s good to always have an extra soap when you need it, but not if that means knocking down walls for extra storage space like one of the women did. Plus it doesn’t leave much room for personal taste. Sometime I just want a bar of oatmeal soap, or a special meal that I’ve been craving and if I have 28 bars of soap at home or a bursting pantry I won’t be able to buy more in good conscience go out and buy something more.
that show is off the hook!
I actually like the show. Even though the twist the show so the viewers think people are getting stuff for dirt cheap. You still have to pay the taxes on the items you buy before the discount. I coupon and do price matching. I have an extra closet in my house that i c\keep my bulk items in. I do donate and a lot of this people donate or send stuff overseas to the troops.
