Hello, my Frugalistas! So I ran across this article about how restaurants like Red Lobster and regular grocery stores are undergoing big time facelifts to stay competitive.
In the case of the grocery stores, you may go into one and start thinking you are in Whole Foods with the upgrades. Wi-Fi cafes in the local Winn-Dixie. Think marble furnishings in Red Lobster or Olive Garden. Whoa!! I think it’s a brilliant idea. It’s always good to stay competitive. Part of the reason I love Fresh Market is because I just love the way it feels in there. I feel so relaxed and not like I’m running an errand. I think it’s always a good thing to invest in yourself. As you all know, I love public Wi-Fi because it allows me to work in new surroundings. If you have free Wi-Fi, you’ll see a lot more of me–including in your living room!! Just jokes.
I know that I am a frugal capitalist. While I love saving money, I do believe in investing in yourself or your business. I think the pay off can be great. It’s like owning a home and remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms. Sometimes you need a little upgrade to give yourself the competitive edge. I try to redesign my site to keep things fresh and pretty for y’all!!
What do you think? Have you been to any of these businesses and noticed a change? Would you be more likely to use a business that offers free Wi-Fi? Do you invest in yourself with career classes or anything else? I wonder if Whole Foods and the other gourmet shops are worried? Talk to me!
