Frugalista Abuses Back-to-School Deals

by frugalista on August 4, 2011

Hello, my Frugalistas! I’m checking in from the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia! I’m speaking at two panels at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention and doing a book signing. If you all have read the book, The Frugalista Files: How Woman Got Out of Debt Without Giving Up the Fabulous Life, you know how I’m addicted a longtime member of the organization! 😉

So the back-to-school season is here, and I can’t wait. I love all the deals! No, I don’t have children and no, I am not the legal guardian of any school kids. However, back-to-school deals are for all Frugalistas (os).

Several states have a tax-free holiday, where you can buy school supplies and/or clothing without paying sales tax. I use that time to buy my office supplies. I mean, office supplies are just school supplies for adults! If you’re a small business owner, you should absolutely check out the back-to-school deals. Who doesn’t need a highlighter? If you need to do a little retail therapy shopping, check out the stores for clothing. The cost of clothing has increased, so shopping when there’s no sales tax is helpful to our bank accounts.

Here is a list of the states that have sales-tax free holidays coming up! I adapted this list from the Federation of Tax Administrators
