Women Are Having Fewer Kids

by frugalista on November 17, 2011

Oh wow! The birth rate has hit an all time low because of the economy, according to the Associated Press. Most ages and races reported a dip in births. Hmm. I guess it’s smart that you shouldn’t have a child if you can’t afford him or her. Or even if you have a great job, if you work in an industry that’s a unstable, I could see putting off kids. I also wonder if women are more OK with having just one or no children?

Are you putting your eggs on lock down because of the economy? Are you waiting for the right mate? I blames some of those nanny reality shows. Those rude kids on those shows make you want to wait a long time!

Yes! (*waving hand wildly*) Yes, I am. Not only do me, my hubby & 5 year old have a great life w/ just the three of us (along with more $ left over for travel, education, etc.), but…kids ARE expensive. And although they are a blessing, I’ve always scratched my head at how some just pop ‘em out repeatedly–and are broke as hell! Huh???

I was discussing this with a friend of mine recently, who said “Finances shouldn’t get in the way of one’s decision to have another child.” I was like, “Um…on what planet?” Last time I checked, finances were a BIG factor.
