25 percent of Extreme Couponers Earn $75,000 a Year

by frugalista on January 25, 2012

Ok, so this Time article says that a quarter of extreme couponers earn $75,000 per year. Wow. Considering the real median household income in the United States in 2010 was $49,445, I would say the extreme couponers are doing pretty darn well. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised considering that a Kardashian decided to pick up on the craze.

Now, I love a coupon, especially a coupon code found online. I just don’t have room for a stockpile in my abode. And no dumpster diving for Sunday’s newspaper to stock up on deals. I’m just fine with my Valpak. Thanks.

Are extreme couponers getting that much cash back on the super savings deals? Or is it because they know the value of a dollar so that’s why they coupon? Are they the millionaires next door? Are you surprised at their income? Is couponing a full-time job?

Unless you are extreme couponing for a organization, I don’t really get why they buy things the don’t need all in the guise of saving money. I have a friend whose mother does this and she doesn’t plan her own meals, the coupons do. Wouldn’t money be saved if you didn’t buy 18 cases of toilet paper? Toilet paper goes bad folks…..

How does toilet paper go bad. I agree you don’t need 50 boxes of pasta but maybe they donate some of that. I never did see anyone or anything with an experation date on it like toilet paper. LOL…. I will have to call the toilet paper companies on that one.

Being frugal means using coupons and any way to save money. So people have cases of toilet paper that never goes bad. So you don’t have storage but you can store under your bed right? Make shelves. No one says you have to go to their extreme. Maybe you don’t need 50 boxes of macaroni but the point is they do it and eat for pennies and your type of frugal means going without a pedicure or a nail treatment. Woopie do. I have never indulged in nail care, updo’s etc… I have always been low income and not loving it but have had to make sacrafices where I don’t shop without a coupon because it means we don’t get by. It is the only way we are able to get by because I do. I wish I had a $40,000 job. I have a degree and am only able to find part time low paying jobs.
